Foreign destroyer orders become wartime reinforcements

Foreign destroyer orders in British yards provided wartime reinforcements; the ARA Argentina aside considers another possible acquisition.

Notes

Brazilian H-class orders and at least two I-class vessels ordered for Turkey supplied ships that Britain purchased for wartime service. Their construction in British yards made them available for acquisition when war began. The treaty criticism presented here is that such purchases repeated a First World War practice which interwar restrictions had been intended to prevent. The acquisitions show how export shipbuilding could provide emergency reinforcements. A separate counterfactual concerns ARA Argentina: had she remained in Britain longer, she could have been detained during the crisis and purchased for British service.
