The move toward truly large German torpedo boats drew on assets intended for other navies. The G101s originated with Argentine orders and approached 1,850 tons fully loaded. The B97s approached 1,750 tons and used machinery ordered for the Imperial Russian Navy's next generation of destroyers. War prevented delivery to Russia, leaving German yards able to offer that machinery to the Kaiserliche Marine. These foreign orders helped supply the larger boats needed after the disappointing V1 experiment.
