How tight would it be for a Ford-class carrier to sail through Narvik?
Short answerDepth is sufficient for a large carrier. Chokepoints, ambush positions, turning at speed, and the lack of an operational purpose are the real constraints.
NotesLarge ore carriers already use Narvik, and the middle of the fjord is deep enough for a very large ship in unopposed conditions. The greater danger comes from chokepoints and headlands that provide ambush positions along the approach. A Ford-class carrier would also have difficulty turning or manoeuvring at speed once committed to confined water. Navigability alone would not justify exposing a capital ship when reaching the end of the fjord offered little operational value.
