The Kawanishi H6K's multirole reach

The Kawanishi H6K combined long-range reconnaissance with anti-submarine, transport, and logistics roles, making it central to Japanese naval plans.

Notes

About two hundred Kawanishi H6K flying boats were built, making the type a substantial Imperial Japanese Navy capability rather than an isolated experiment. Its roles ranged from anti-submarine work and reconnaissance to moving VIPs, stores, and supplies, rather than serving as a single-purpose patrol aircraft. A maximum takeoff weight of roughly 21.5 tonnes gave the aircraft real logistical usefulness. The comparison with much lighter First World War flying boats underlines how rapidly water-based aircraft had grown in scale and operational ambition.
