Measuring naval strength beyond the number of ships

Campaign statistics compare hull counts with tonnage, ship types, budgets, crew pools, and logistics to show why one headline total cannot describe military strength.

Notes

The campaign comparison initially makes the British fleet look dominant because it contains nearly 1,200 vessels against roughly 500 American ships. Breaking the totals down reveals a different picture: the United States fields more capital ships, heavy cruisers, and light cruisers, while Britain has far more destroyers and submarines. Total tonnage, naval budgets, available crews, army strength, and logistics percentages further complicate the comparison. Force assessment must examine composition and support capacity because every hull does not contribute equivalent fighting power.
