The proposed combined design could keep some weapons permanently installed. One example retains 48 Mark 41 VLS cells and adds about six StanFlex slots for payloads that change with the mission. A larger standard-plus interface could accommodate a 5-inch gun, extending the choice beyond the existing 3-inch format. An OTO Melara 76 mm gun module is also suggested as attractive to many customers. Fixed systems would provide a core missile battery while the interchangeable equipment changed the deployment fit. These are example arrangements for the counterfactual.
