Fisher kept choosing speed and guns over protection

Fisher continued to favor lightly protected, heavily armed speed even after designs such as HMS Tiger showed a more balanced route.

Notes

Fisher's battlecruiser policy shows how a strong design idea can harden into doctrine without enough attention to consequences. Invincible paired cruiser-grade protection with battleship guns, inviting opponents to build ships able to deliver the same heavy blows while surviving more punishment. HMS Tiger offered a more balanced direction, but Fisher returned during the war to Renown and Repulse and then to Courageous, Glorious, and Furious. The sequence matters because Jutland exposed the risks of employing lightly protected capital ships where their armament encouraged commanders to treat them as battle-line units.
