Chapter · 2:48:07-2:49:49

A delayed Pacific war starts with a newer aircraft generation

Continued aircraft development could bring a Reppu-type successor forward without the wartime pressure to concentrate on Zero production.

Notes

The aviation scenario assumes roughly three years between successive fighter generations. Japan could have more opportunity to develop a Mitsubishi A7M Reppu-type replacement if it did not have to maximise output of the Zero during an ongoing war. British and American aircraft would also continue to improve. The proposed Japanese advantage therefore has to be compared with the newer opponents it would meet, and the aircraft's availability remains conditional.
