The Sea King airborne-early-warning conversion did not appear from nothing during the Falklands War. Plans and technical ideas had existed for years before the crisis. What had been missing was the money and urgency to turn them into an operational capability. The war changed the funding decision and compressed implementation, showing how an emergency can accelerate a prepared concept.
