Recall, Ascension resupply, and the South Georgia insertion

845's Falklands service ran from a rapid crew recall and Ascension resupply to inserting the SAS on South Georgia while maintaining demanding engineering standards.

Notes

845 entered the Falklands War with Wessex HC5s, while 846 Squadron had moved to Sea King HC4s. Crews were recalled from Northern Ireland on 4 May at twenty-four hours' notice even as an island patrol continued. The squadron then supported task-force resupply around Ascension Island and inserted Special Air Service personnel on South Georgia. It may have outflown 846, although an exact comparison is uncertain because both units cared more about completing missions than recording every passenger, freight load, and flying hour. Royal Navy engineering and maintenance standards still held under this pressure, helping to sustain aircraft availability.
