Fairmile's British-built answer to American landing craft

Fairmile offered a smaller British-built counterpart after the large Landing Craft Infantry went to American yards to protect destroyer capacity.

Notes

Building the large Landing Craft Infantry in Britain would have competed with destroyer construction, so the main type went to American yards. Stanley Goodall disliked losing direct oversight of the work, and Fairmile offered to build a smaller British counterpart. The craft described here displaced about 110 tons fully loaded and could make roughly fourteen and a half knots. Some used ship engines, while many used other power plants rated in brake horsepower rather than conventional ship horsepower.
