The Fairmile B's production run of about 650 dwarfed the totals for German Räumboote and Schnellboote. The boats began as subchasers with depth charges and light guns, but later fits added 20 mm and 40 mm weapons as their duties broadened. Crews had already improvised some of those changes, even acquiring Italian anti-aircraft guns by uncertain routes. Formal upgrades answered tactical needs and regularized ammunition, spares, and maintenance across a very large fleet. Mass production and standardization were central to Allied coastal-force effectiveness.

Fairmile B scale and the logistics of crew modifications
The roughly 650 Fairmile Bs demonstrate how Allied production scale and standardized upgrades could matter more than the performance of any single fast-boat design.
