Fairmile B fittings enable rapid role changes

Built-in deck fittings allowed Fairmile B motor launches to be reconfigured quickly for many small-craft missions.

Notes

Fairmile B launches sent toward Malta could undertake general duties or mine-clearance work rather than remain tied to one original role. Steel attachment points built into their decks provided that flexibility. With a crane and the necessary equipment, a boat could be adapted to a different small-craft task in about forty-eight hours; manpower could substitute when lifting equipment was unavailable. The design demonstrates how standardized hulls and modular fittings helped a wartime fleet respond to changing local needs.
