The 45,000-ton ceiling forces the projected G3 derivative to lose several thousand tons. An F3-style low-low-superfiring arrangement shortens the armored citadel and can still bring all nine 16-inch guns forward at sufficient elevation. Removing the original G3's awkward amidships turret also frees the after deck for secondary guns and air defenses. The treaty displacement limit therefore changes the main-battery geometry while leaving more room for later defensive improvements.

An F3 turret layout trims weight and opens the stern
Shrinking the G3 into a treaty-compliant F3 favors a compact all-forward battery and leaves useful space for secondary and anti-aircraft weapons.
