Eskimo was leading other destroyers round a bend when she took the hit. In the account given here, she fired her torpedoes and moved stern-first to cover the following ships. The hit swept away A mounting and its crew. A messenger from B mounting asked the bridge to change heading so those guns could still bear, and the bridge did so. Eskimo returned to service after the damage.
