Chapter ยท 25:03-26:18

Escort-carrier flight decks, fuel management, and survivability

Bogue's deck length constrained aircraft operations, while fuel drainage and impact location affected the damage a kamikaze could cause.

Notes

The Bogue class lacked a full-length flight deck. A deck extending to roughly 495 feet would have approached the length at which flight operations become considerably easier in this assessment. Survivability under kamikaze attack raised a separate question about the position of the hit and the amount of combustible material nearby. The British fuel-management system drained fuel away from hangar and flight-deck areas. Having less fuel available to ignite improved the odds of dealing with an attack, although the impact location still mattered.
