The escaping paddle frigate carried Sinop’s report

The surviving Ottoman paddle frigate linked steam mobility to rapid reporting through Ottoman and British command networks.

Notes

An Ottoman paddle frigate escaped the destruction and carried an account of the battle away from Sinop. On 2 December, its report went to the imperial palace, the Ottoman naval commander, and the senior Royal Navy admiral on station. That distribution shows how closely British officers were connected to Ottoman naval information during the crisis. Operationally, steam power mattered less in the anchored gun battle than in allowing one vessel to get away.
