The "English Wars" as a Scandinavian conflict

The Danish label "English Wars" covers the 1801 crisis and the longer 1807-1814 struggle, although the alignments also made it a Scandinavian conflict involving outside powers.

Notes

The Danish and Norwegian label for the wars against Britain can obscure their regional alignments. Sweden often supported Britain, whereas Denmark-Norway drew support from France and Spain. The fighting was therefore wider than an isolated Anglo-Danish quarrel. This regional framework connects Copenhagen with the later Gunboat War before the narrative turns to the convoy dispute.
