After an attempt to tow Warrior failed, Engadine manoeuvred the converted ferry alongside the crippled armoured cruiser in difficult seas. As the ships rolled, one of Warrior's guns pierced Engadine below the waterline. Her crew patched the hole while rapidly distributing 675 survivors so their weight would not capsize the carrier. A naval aviator disobeyed orders to rescue a seriously wounded man who fell between the ships and received the Albert Medal for lifesaving. The transfer was completed in roughly an hour, and Warrior sank soon afterward. Engadine later served from Malta in support of anti-submarine patrols, showing how a seaplane carrier could perform rescue and escort-support work far beyond flying operations.
