Electronic warfare belongs across the fleet

Ordinary warships should be capable listeners and data collectors instead of leaving electronic warfare to one specialist frigate.

Question

Would a dedicated electronic-warfare frigate be a useful support ship?

Short answer

No. Electronic warfare and signals collection should be built into warships across the fleet.

Notes

Modern warships already carry broad-spectrum listening equipment and act as mobile data centres. Even an offshore patrol vessel passing through a strategic strait can collect signals for immediate transmission or later analysis. Electronic warfare is therefore a fleet-wide function that Type 83 should integrate rather than a specialty isolated aboard one supporting frigate.
