The production outcome did not simply follow the recommendations from the trials. Elco ultimately built hundreds of boats, while Higgins' large landing-craft commitment constrained its PT-boat output. Huckins supplied only a small number despite favorable handling and a quadraconic planing hull with a laminated-keel system that strengthened the structure. Huckins licensed its construction patent to Elco, Higgins, and Philadelphia Navy Yard, although Elco and Higgins did not use it. Without government support for a larger prewar facility, Huckins continued building at its civilian yard. Output remained about one boat per month.

Why the Elco PT boat dominated production
Elco built the best-known US PT boats in large numbers, while Higgins shifted toward landing craft and Huckins remained a small producer despite a strong trial result.
