The earlier Seafire proposal was a gull-wing aircraft being developed by Supermarine. Its wing arrangement reflected the requirement to land aboard a carrier. Supermarine requested the Seafire name while working on that design. This proposal should be distinguished from the later Seafire derived from the Spitfire.
