The E/F and G/H comparison questions a 60-ton saving

Similar systems and revised equipment make the published E/F-to-G/H displacement difference doubtful in a comparison of their plans.

Notes

Later destroyers added or improved equipment while sometimes claiming a lower standard displacement than their predecessors. The G/H example includes depth charges and a revised gun mounting, alongside claims for improved machinery and performance. Machinery efficiency is accepted as a possible source of savings. Comparing the E/F and G/H plans, however, supports some difference in weight without making the full published difference of about 60 tons convincing in this assessment. The challenge concerns the claimed scale of the saving, rather than a claim that no improvement was possible.
