H68 served Britain, the Netherlands, and Germany across two wars

A British-built 1915 submarine became a Dutch training boat and, after being scuttled and raised, a German trainer in World War II.

Notes

H68 entered Royal Navy service in 1915 and was sold to the Netherlands before the First World War ended. The Dutch used her for more than two decades to develop submarine personnel before scuttling the boat during the 1940 invasion. Germany raised the already twenty-five-year-old hull and returned it to service as a training submarine, evidence of the Kriegsmarine's shortage of boats. Her second scuttling in 1945 closed an extraordinary three-navy career.
