Why Dominion battlecruisers suited Britain's imperial position

Dominion battlecruisers could protect imperial trade while Britain's battleships retained the power to enforce its will if required.

Notes

South Africa is another possible participant in the counterfactual naval program. Its growing involvement in imperial Army projects suggests a parallel route into naval cooperation. Battlecruisers fit Britain's trade-protection requirements better than Dominion battleships in this argument. Keeping the stronger battleship force would also leave Britain able to impose its will on a battlecruiser force if necessary. The proposed distribution therefore combines overseas defence with continued British naval superiority.
