Portsmouth had two spaces that could accept HMS Neptune, while Chatham's largest useful dock reached only the Lord Nelson class. Some smaller ships, including the Canopus and Duke of Edinburgh classes, still required specific conditions before entering particular Chatham docks. Gibraltar and Malta had more options for Neptune than for the longer Indefatigable-class battlecruisers, and some entries depended on moving a caisson to its outer stop or lightening the ship. Simon's Bay could receive every class in the table, while Hong Kong could not take Indefatigable or Invincible. A total dock count says less than this class-by-class map of usable facilities.
