Dido endurance beyond the official figures

Argonaut's reported high-speed voyage suggests that wartime fuel capacity and practical endurance could exceed the neat figures published for a treaty-era cruiser.

Notes

A reported 1,350-nautical-mile run by HMS Argonaut at 30 knots tests the class's stated endurance against operational evidence. Because the ship apparently retained fuel at the end of the run, her full high-speed range may have been closer to 1,500 nautical miles. The description suggests roughly twenty percent remained, but the estimate conservatively uses ten percent. The discrepancy may reflect wartime conversion of nominally empty or differently assigned spaces into additional fuel tanks, a practice also seen in carrier designs. Treaty displacement and official range tables therefore need to be checked against what ships actually achieved in service.
