Chapter · 1:24:03-1:44:11

A destroyer screen creates an opening against capital ships

A larger battlecruiser force uses scouts and destroyers to absorb risk while seeking a favourable exchange against German battleships.

Notes

The engagement begins from an awkward position against battleships, with scouts and screens organized around the battlecruisers. Destroyer losses are expected because their time-buying role may permit a much larger enemy loss. The German light forces attempt the same protective task, entering the fire of British destroyers, cruisers, and 6-inch secondary batteries to shield their capital ships. The result, three enemy battleships, two light cruisers, and seven destroyers lost for three destroyers, shows the intended payoff while keeping the cost of screen attrition visible.
