Destroyer-armed Atlantic cruiser refit

The proposed rebuild swaps the old six-inch battery for 4.7-inch destroyer guns, four-inch high-angle guns, pom-poms, torpedoes, new boilers, and an Atlantic bow.

Notes

The proposed escort carries five twin 4.7-inch mounts and two twin four-inch mounts. Three quadruple pom-pom mounts, three quadruple machine-gun mounts, and two quadruple torpedo launchers supplement the main guns. An Atlantic-style bow would improve the hull for ocean service. Four Admiralty three-drum boilers would replace the twelve Yarrow boilers, with four turbines providing a proposed 64,000 shaft horsepower against the original 25,000. The conservative speed estimate is 30 knots, with 32 knots considered possible. Two funnels would replace the four-funnel arrangement. These changes are intended to give convoy escorts enough surface firepower to keep attackers away.
