Would a war delayed to 1948 leave Britain's older battleships in service?
Short answerProbably very few; Nelson and Rodney might be the oldest survivors, and even they could be replaced.
NotesIf war waited until 1948, Britain would have time to replace almost every older capital ship. Nelson and Rodney might remain the oldest units, but even they could plausibly have successors before hostilities. The delayed-war scenario therefore modernizes the Royal Navy as well as Germany and cannot be evaluated by adding Plan Z to Britain's historical 1939 fleet. It is a short but important warning that alternate timelines change replacement cycles on both sides.
