Mk VI guns, anti-aircraft weapons, and Squid

Three twin 4.5-inch Mk VI mounts, 40 mm anti-aircraft weapons, and a Squid mortar gave Daring a layered weapons fit alongside unusually careful subdivision.

Notes

Each Daring carried three twin 4.5-inch Mk VI mounts able to engage aircraft as well as surface targets. Their reach exceeded the prewar cruiser fighting range used in the comparison, which helps explain the battery's cruiser-like weight. The 40 mm systems supplied closer anti-aircraft defence, while a Squid mortar added an anti-submarine weapon. An all-electric galley and fluorescent lighting also show that the class was conceived as a modern postwar ship rather than a minimal wartime hull. Extensive internal subdivision paired those weapons with an effort to keep the destroyer survivable after damage.
