Bridge geometry and the Mk VI gun mount

The bridge and superstructure were shaped to preserve the forward turrets' firing arcs, while the upper-deck Mk VI mount promised a more flexible 4.5-inch battery.

Notes

HMS Diamond's bridge profile shows how the design preserved the firing arcs of A and B turrets. The angles of the bridge and superstructure let both forward turrets train without the bow extension considered earlier. The Mk VI was a proper upper-deck turret rather than the Battle class's between-deck installation. Had the mounting matured before the Second World War, its lighter 4.5-inch ammunition and high elevation might have made it a much wider Royal Navy destroyer standard.
