Building availability through compatible flight decks

Compatible carrier and amphibious flight decks could create a larger pool of ships able to support the same STOVL aircraft in different roles.

Notes

The video imagines replacing Britain’s amphibious ships with LHDs based on the Trieste class. Combined with the two Queen Elizabeth-class carriers, three such ships would create five flight decks able to operate a common family of aircraft and air groups. The carriers would remain optimised for strike and the LHDs for amphibious warfare, but each type could cover part of the other’s role when necessary. This interoperability would not equal four identical fleet carriers, yet it would improve resilience by widening the pool of usable decks.
