Why the Crown Colonies' displacement figures invite scrutiny

The gap between standard and full-load displacement is compared with the larger Southampton and Gloucester groups.

Notes

Fiji-group full displacement is given as 10,725 tons and Ceylon-group displacement as 10,840 tons, despite both being presented as roughly 8,000 tons standard. Southampton figures of 9,100 tons standard and 11,350 tons full produce a smaller loading difference. On those figures, a Fiji saves 1,100 tons at standard displacement but only 625 tons when full, even though its crew, fuel, and much of its equipment are broadly comparable. The calculation raises suspicion about the published standard figure, without establishing proof of false reporting. The Ceylon figure adds to that suspicion because replacing a complete main turret with a quadruple pom-pom would appear to save weight.
