Crewed escorts may support uncrewed task units

A frigate or destroyer could provide computing and maintenance support to uncrewed vessels large enough to survive faults until weather permits repair.

Notes

The proposed task unit puts a crewed frigate or destroyer at the center of several uncrewed assets, supplying command computing and specialist support. Several frigate or destroyer task units could then combine around a carrier as a larger group. The maintenance problem sets a sharp size choice for the uncrewed vessels: they must be small enough to bring aboard for repair or large enough to tolerate faults at sea. An uncrewed sloop may therefore need 2,000-3,000 tons of redundancy so a failure during a storm does not become a loss before technicians can safely reach it.
