A crew preparing for combat in space should have protection against the ship losing pressure. Some of the books provide jelly-filled protective pods, while others put the crew in suits. Either arrangement recognizes a danger that remains even while the crew carry out their fighting duties. The naval comparison is flash gear, which sailors put on to protect themselves from flash burns in battle.

Crew survival measures at space action stations
Protective pods and suits address decompression in space just as naval flash gear addresses burns during combat at sea.
