Chapter · 4:14:30-4:20:23

Carrier mass at Malta and Taranto in an accelerated 1940

The alternate campaign concentrates more carriers and torpedo bombers in the Mediterranean to suppress Axis shipping and make Taranto far more destructive.

Notes

In Daniel's alternate campaign, a much larger Taranto strike uses over a hundred torpedo bombers and returns to damaged ships until they are beyond salvage. Italian battleships and cruisers suffer far heavier losses than in the historical raid. The carrier list eventually includes altered Illustrious and Formidable designs, a surviving Glorious, Eagle and Hermes brought from the Indian Ocean, and an early Unicorn used as a carrier. Additional carrier availability also improves protection during Operation Excess, where the scenario assigns fewer Allied losses. The argument connects the size of a carrier force with its capacity both to repeat attacks and to support subsequent convoy operations. This favorable result belongs to a timeline that has already accelerated British construction and weakened Axis naval forces.
