Corvette construction created the path to River-class frigates

Bathurst production built the skills and bought the time needed for Australia to construct more capable River-class frigates without making the corvettes obsolete.

Notes

Mort's Dock produced fifteen corvettes, matching the combined output of two naval dockyards and demonstrating the scale of civilian mobilization. Australia then advanced to River-class frigates, which approached full wartime sloops in capability while remaining suitable for quantity construction. Corvette building developed the skills needed for these larger escorts and bought time for their construction. The earlier ships remained useful in secondary theaters after better escorts arrived. Of the wartime industrial organizations discussed, the Whyalla works and Williamstown were identified as surviving links, with Williamstown having fitted out the Canberra-class landing helicopter docks. Their continued existence sits alongside the loss of much of the wider wartime shipbuilding infrastructure over subsequent decades.
