Coreopsis entered Royal Navy service in 1940 and transferred to Greece in 1943. Its career included rescuing survivors from ships attacked by U-47, U-92, and U-130. The vessel later portrayed the fictional HMS Compass Rose in The Cruel Sea. The film gave an actual Flower-class hull a lasting screen identity, although its portrayal is criticized here for distorting popular perceptions of the class and its crews.
