A colony manifest needs machinery and heavy lift

Stockpiled supplies must include excavators, construction vehicles, explosives, and the lift capacity to move them, exposing the limits of a single all-purpose transport.

Notes

One-stop engineering solutions are unlikely to cover every stage of colonization. A Mars base can grow faster if an orbital depot stockpiles supplies and shuttles them down as construction requires. Those supplies extend far beyond hand tools and inflatable shelters: a viable settlement needs rovers, excavators, bulldozer-scale machines, explosives, and other heavy equipment. Designers must then solve how those vehicles move between the surface and orbit. Even a Saturn V-scale payload of roughly fifty tonnes may be only a starting point, making heavy lift part of the settlement system rather than a separate launch detail.
