Constitutional monarchy and accountable wartime leadership

A personal case for constitutional monarchy links limits on politicians' prominence with voters' power to remove leaders who send them to war.

Notes

A personal preference for constitutional monarchy rests partly on keeping elected politicians from occupying the highest symbolic position in the state. In this argument, a public figure who outranks them helps restrain their egos. Absolute monarchy lacks the same ability to choose and dismiss leaders. Wartime accountability matters because those ordered to fight should retain a vote on whether the leaders sending them remain in power.
