Why Tribal destroyers suited Canada and Australia

For Canada and Australia, Tribals provided presence, scouting, escort leadership, and a force able to stand in for scarcer cruisers.

Notes

Commonwealth Tribals were flexible ships that fit regional needs inside an imperial naval system. Canada's destroyer-heavy navy needed leaders for escort groups that could also face surface raiders, while Australia needed ships able to contribute presence and fleet duties over long distances. Their cruiser-like weight provided some redundancy where Dominion fleets could not crew many cruisers. Designing a class usable by Britain, Canada, and Australia made alliance commitments part of Royal Navy doctrine. The Canadian 10th Destroyer Flotilla illustrates the offensive value of these ships in protecting the Normandy lodgement and its supply flow.
