COGAG's performance comes with a logistics burden

COGAG uses separate cruising and high-speed turbines, but multiple engine types can multiply the spare-parts and maintenance burden aboard a warship.

Notes

A combined-gas arrangement gives a ship one turbine optimized for economical cruising and another for speed. The separate engine types require correctly identified spares because parts for the cruising machinery may not fit the high-speed machinery. Kashin-class destroyers carried two turbines for each role, and factory differences could leave a ship managing four distinct engines. The four-engine layout offered two operating regimes, but it also turned spare-part control into an engineering problem. Propulsion architecture therefore affected the ship's maintenance and stores burden.
