Pembroke Dock, Calshot, Felixstowe, and stations farther afield provided the interwar flying-boat infrastructure. These aircraft were often the only regular air presence near an overseas naval station, including Singapore. Individual squadrons remained very small and could be split between home and forward locations, which made their administrative strength look more impressive than the force in one place. Basing extended maritime reach without solving the underlying shortage of aircraft.
