Clemenceau and Foch anchored a distinctly French carrier arm

Clemenceau and Foch gave France national carrier foundations, while Aquilon and Alizé programs rebuilt aviation expertise through licensed production and allied testing.

Notes

Clemenceau and Foch gave France carriers shaped around its own doctrine and became training grounds for the rebuilt air arm. Licensed production of the de Havilland Sea Venom as the Aquilon let French industry learn from a foreign design while recovering its own skills. The domestically produced Breguet Alizé supplied a carrier-based anti-submarine aircraft. France began testing from shore, then used HMS Eagle for Alizé landing and catapult trials in 1958 because no French deck was available. National industrial development and practical cooperation with Britain worked together in this case.
