From Ulsan to Chungnam: building a Korean frigate capability

A sequence running through Ulsan, Incheon and Daegu places Chungnam within South Korea's development of an indigenous warship-building capability.

Notes

Chungnam can be understood as a fourth generation in South Korea's development of its own frigates. This interpretation begins with the Ulsan class, then follows Incheon and Daegu before reaching Chungnam. Starting with corvettes would produce a different account of the programme's beginnings. The chosen sequence traces a growing domestic ability to build ships at different levels of capability. The generational label therefore depends on the starting point used for the comparison.
