The Chungmugong Yi Sun-sin class is the multipurpose KDX-II generation. Its missile battery combines thirty-two Mark 41 cells for SM-2 with twenty-four Korean VLS cells that can carry Red Shark anti-submarine weapons and Hyunmoo-3 land-attack missiles. Those launchers provide 56 VLS cells, with eight SSM-700K Haeseong anti-ship missiles bringing the combined count to 64. One RAM launcher forward, one Goalkeeper aft, and a 5-inch gun complete the weapons fit described for the 6,520-ton full-load ship. Korea's own VLS distinguishes this program from navies that rely on Mark 41 or Sylver despite greater spending or a stronger maritime emphasis. The combination gives KDX-II weapons for several missions while extending Korea's domestic equipment capability.
