Would a smaller, less capable ASW frigate support Type 26 as Type 23 supported Type 22?

Probably through uncrewed ASW assets operating with the crewed frigates, with each crewed ship coordinating its own screen.

The lower-end ASW role is expected here to move into uncrewed assets operating with crewed frigates. In this proposed organisation, frigates and destroyers would resemble cruisers at the centre of their own screens. Uncrewed craft would take roles compared with Second World War sloops, corvettes and destroyer escorts. The crewed ships would retain coordination of ASW or air defence. Type 92 is tentatively identified as a programme to watch, with its eventual form left open.
