Leonardo da Vinci was lost to a magazine explosion in 1916 and was not restored after the war. Giulio Cesare survived into postwar Soviet service, where she later sank after striking a mine. Conte di Cavour was hit hard at Taranto, salvaged, and ultimately scrapped without returning to service. Interwar reconstruction removed the central triple turret while improving protection and reorganizing the secondary battery. Even before those later careers, the original design belonged to the Colossus era and was quickly overtaken by the Royal Navy's 13.5-inch-gunned Orion class.
