Defending a carrier group from missile saturation

Type 45 magazine capacity is only one layer in a task group's defence against a mass missile attack.

Question

Do Type 45 destroyers carry enough missiles to protect a Queen Elizabeth-class carrier from saturation attack?

Short answer

Their magazines matter, but survival depends on the whole task group's layered defence and on preventing the attacker from launching a concentrated salvo.

Notes

Counting one destroyer's missiles treats the carrier as though a single ship defended it. Type 45s, Type 26s, F-35s, electronic warfare and attacks on the launch platforms all contribute to the engagement. A very large salvo can still exhaust magazines or leak weapons through to an escort even when the carrier survives. Peacetime air defence emphasizes clean kills, while wartime defence may gain as much from disrupting and breaking up the incoming raid.
